  'Get Cycling' Roadshow for Schools
'Get Cycling' Roadshow for Schools

Company of Cyclists’ schools work covers two main areas. We have a unique and successful Cycling Activity Day for primary and secondary schools, giving children an exciting and memorable day of learning and bike try-out fun. This can encompass cycle training to Level One of National Standards. We have also had great success with our Get Cycling to School programme, working through schools. This includes bike and equipment loan, incentives, etc.

Our schools work has been developed over eight years. It can take many forms, but a typical day consists of a number of activities on a group-rotation basis:

A try-out show of 25 cycles appropriate for the age of the children.

An interactive classroom presentation involving a specially made 12-minute video, interactive drama and powerpoint quizzes in versions relevant to specific keystages.

This presentation includes fitness and diet awareness. It can also include cycle maintenance or this can be offered as a separate activity. In this way we can give an unforgettable cycling experience to 300 pupils per day. We work closely with the teaching staff of the host schools, and provide a teachers’ pack and follow-up project materials. If teachers prefer, we give the video and interactive presentation to whole assemblies or year groups in the morning, allowing us to concentrate just on the bike try-out activity for the rest of the day.

We are now applying our extensive experience of cycle training to our Cycling Activity Days. We can shift the emphasis to training, taking 60 pupils through to Level One during each visit, providing notes on each child’s needs and abilities to your own trainers for Level 2 and Level 3 work.

We provide an explanatory/recruitment brochure for schools, and assist schools in raising a contribution towards costs.

We have visited hundreds of schools, usually touring an area for a week or two at a time.

Special rates available for out-of season schools work – operating in sports halls
